Hosted by Spinnin Records and by an artist I wasn`t aware of and who I think it may be worth keeping an eye on..! so do check this out if a little EDM is your thing. The contest itself is one where you can choose which track to mix, from a selection of 5..and to save even more time, they are here all zipped up and ready to go:

My favourite by a mile and ripe for some remixing has to be Another Way (Featuring Mario) Which may or may not be the very same Mario who sang “Let Me Love You”. Just in case you want to check, here`s the video:

I`m also going to keep a closer eye on future remix competitions because there does seem to be quite a few more decent ones coming to the fore recently.

The Blackbyrds – Walking In Rhythm (Multitrack & Protools Session)(12 Mono Tracks)(96k-24bit)
This is going to be a tricky one to pitch. Pardon the pun. There we go line 1.
The “purist” multitrack collector will really not like this pack much, because it is nowhere near what we call a “complete multitrack”. And you`ll hopefully be interested to know, there are quite a few of these types of packs around. Some have a multitude of missing parts, some will have the entire guitar and piano track mixed down (quietly) over a really loud electronic “beatbox” rendering it useless (more on that one soon), some will just have 8 tracks of silence. Sometimes, basically, it`s a bit “Pot Luck”.
But, it is all a matter of perspective. For now, it is what it is. Look on the brightside. Packs like this could be a rarity. There may be NO full version at all. So something is better than nothing? And to a remixer and not a collector, stuff like this is absolute gold. Put stems like these in the right hands and they find ALL the perfectly pitched,timed and best takes and make some loops.. and from those loops, they might make a top ten song, and everybody gets paid again. You just dont know (lol). I`d rather there were a 100 packs like this rather than a big fat zero of em tbh..
As to what is actually in this pack, for starters there`s a Protools session file in there so hopefully someone has already found the best loops..;) but musically, admittedly, it`s a let down. It seems there is only “some” instrumentation (no strings) 🙁 and percussion from the intro of the song only, and in 5 different takes. AKA: loop material.
But probably really really good loop material 😉

Where to start with Zedd? I`ve been a fan a while tbh, rated right up there with my more favoured EDM producers. Really talented guy.. and now all nicely signed up with Universal, feet under the carpet ECT.., so one would expect some more nice new compositions. Soon please.
Speaking of which, the new single. Not what I was expecting in all honesty, but it sort of fits into the current style of EDM/Pop quite nicely. Not a million miles away (musically) from what you might find on Dua Lipa`s Future Nostalgia. In fact you could throw this instrumental right in the middle of the Dua Lipa FN Insts and you`d be hard pressed to tell any difference.. (He`s that good).
Check out the video to Funny here . It is actually really funny. Very creative and safe to say its kinda inspired by the recent “lockdown” and Zoom streams ..sort of thing. Great video tho from start to finish.

Lastly, it seems Universal were kind enough to let the acapella and instrumental out into the open so you do have to wonder if they want some remixes done? Well, it looks like they might get some ! haha.. And it`s still not too late for an official remix competition..Or maybe the dry vocals will appear? Just a little plug for a song that had over 2000 remixes submitted in a recently held Remix Competition.. 2000 !
The winners remixes (Fishimora, Blender and Alessandro) were officially released a few days ago, and from what I`ve heard, they`re rather good, and kinda transformed a track I was 50/50 on, into something I now like. Hate it when that happens.
The Blender remix was mainly to blame. Big club drums and a prominent vocal & piano gets me every time.

NEWS: & Sol Levante [Anime] – Full ProTools Session (Video & Audio)
Some interesting news has been brought to my attention, so as is the case on things like this, time for a little write up. Now if your an avid Cubase fan like myself, ProTools and everything that comes with it, can be the nemesis of all nemesises to the regular “easy sequencer” guys like me. If that is you too, dont be scared either, just read on! In other news, some cool things are also afoot, that might just influence my dream of “Streaming Multitracks” that some of you have picked up on too. Might have to revise the Spotify stem player idea a little !
One other thing I did find interesting researching the news, is that it seems there is a streaming company I wasnt aware of (Tidal.com) who can stream FLAC`s at 96kHz 24bit (Lossless audio streaming to you and me) via A “Master Quality Authenticated” MQA audio codec. Dont know what it is or what it does but I still want one.. And they`re already involved with the likes of Sony, Universal & Warner. Hmmm.
So HQ Streaming: check. At least it`s possible. All that`s needed now is the bandwidth and the software to sync up a Multitrack or Stem Pack by least 10x whats happening now, and voila.
Then to join all that funkiness together with the one major player I discounted from my initial equazions: Netflix. Uses 15% of the web`s bandwidth, decent download speeds, already knows how to stream big files. But where is “Netflix Music” ? **waits patiently**
Conclusion: Netfilx needs to buy Tidal and stream Multitracks & Stems. Really soon. 🙂
Speaking of Netflix, Here`s a line or two of copy pasta about a new Netflix remaster project:
“Have you ever wanted to try mixing a Dolby Atmos production but don’t have access to any content? If so, Netflix has made an Anime production – Sol Levante – to help the industry better understand 4K HDR and immersive audio in Anime. In addition, they have released the raw materials used in Sol Levante for download and experimentation and you can download the video and ProTools session assets, learn from the professionals and then try mixing it for yourself“.
Okkkkayy.. Back to being scared uh? haha. If you want more info on this, you might be better off Googling for more info, or this will become a long, long news post. ProTools Expert.com do seem to have a decent article on this so probably a good starting point is there. Or here.Then you might want to Google which version of ProTrolls you are actually going to need to invest in to open this 23GB monster.

This pack is from a fairly new to the `net remix competition, which you might have to jump thru a few hoops n loops to get, if you go direct to the source here, but all the same, good to see another more well known artist or two putting their songs out there as stem sets for everyone to have a go at remixing.. just wish there were more of these tbh.. I mean, c`mon you`ll get a free write up and a link out if you do 😉 Just dont make it a complete P.I.T.A to get the stems which sometimes is the way with these things, and you`ll get some great publicity, I`m sure 😉
