No prizes for guessing which two famous tunes have gone together to make this brand new mashup which is turning out to be a bit of an overnight success. Congrats to one of the old hands, Mr Bill McClintock. 90k views overnight.. 100k, by the time you read this.. guess you`d take that.
And it all kinda works, as Mash Ups go. 10 out of 10 for the essential creative titling, AND both tunes work together really well. Jobs a good un, as they say. Check it out for yourselves. Or, even better (maybe, if thats your thing) have a go at recreating this work for yourself with the very timely CR Mash Up pack !
Also, been thinking a while about posting more Mash Ups like this that are lurking on You Tube, as there are actually some real corkers out there. If any of our members want in, you`ll get yourself a gratis “plug of the week” too, just HMU with a link to the You Tube video of your Mash up. Make sure there a thumbnail too, or it will be unusuable on the blog. Might even make a new dedicated page for em.

Impromptu Mash Up Competition time again !
Couldnt resist putting a pack together for these two tracks. As you may or may not know, the two do “kinda go” in the key/progression and even arrangement departments..and the pair have featured in a a fair few Mash Ups and “remixes of sorts” over the years. All of them have been worthy of a listen while prepping this post, and in each one if you go on a searching mission, you may notice many similarities, and yet some differences, but all on a theme. The theme being the same two tunes being used for a remix or a Mash Up..
But, as good as those mixes are, there could be room for a little upgrade to the works already out there. Seems most of the Mash Ups currently floating about on the web all used the Adele (Studio Acapella) of R.O.T.D and an instrumental of Sweet Dreams with backing vocals. Perish the thought. The mixes I`ve listened thru vary from 2009 upto 2020 which leaves imo, plenty of room for an updated version or three. Maybe even more. Why not. Every DJ worth their salt will want to do their own “special DJ mix” for their sets surely, if they get the feels for revisiting such a dare I say it “classic” or maybe a future classic mash.
And because we are approx ten years down the road from when these two singles were released, and Acapellas & Instrumentals have been improved upon by Stems & AI, in the CR Mash Up Pack, the materials available now to remixers are of much higher quality, which makes things a bit tastier & much easier when it comes to (re)creating that future legendary Mash Up of which you are about to make. For instance, the “new” Sweet Dreams instrumental doesn`t have the BV`s there spoiling things, and the Adele vocal is all now split into lots of very handy stems. That`s an improvement right there from what the OG Mash Up makers had to use. Then, if you so choose, you could maybe add a few musical bits and bobs from the actual Adele stems pack for Rolling In The Deep. Add a bit of a sprinkling of pixie dust, et voila.
Before I forget – the semi serious bit. For the AI nerds amongst us and the curious, both Sweet Dreams packs are worthy of a listen on their own, and together, especially if you want to have a quick listen to how things are moving on in the “AI filtering world”, and how much the quality is improving, and how quickly, more to the point.
The first pack (the MP3`s one) was created only maybe a couple of months ago. The newer WAV pack was created from “AI software” that is made with “new techniques” that are apparently much more recent. As in there`s been only a 2 months gap between these packs being made..recently. Wow. Things move fast ! And we know both guys a have done their absolute bestest on these filters, (not knocking anyone here), so personally, I think its pretty cool everyone can get to hear in almost real time, how AI filtering is improving so much and how its doing so, so quickly.
btw, thanks and shouts out to the guys making these AI packs. Hope to see many more. Definately a new niche growing nicely around AI in the stems scene for sure. More power to you all I say. Literally. Giga tons..Its not as though there isnt enough to keep everyone super busy for a while yet is it?
OK guys, dont forget, aaaall you have to do to win the “Rolling in the Sweet Dreams” CR Mash Up Contest is to be the first to get your production finished & out there with an added “2023” on the end of the title. Spose it`d help if it was the biggest and freshest thing out there tbh, but as long as its on a par with the other versions, but a little more upto date, you`ll be fine, I`m sure, and have an “internet AI type hit” on your hands. If there`s plenty of interest in your creation feel free to ask David Guetta to do a “remix” maybe (he`ll want to do one anyway) and you`re all set for a chunk of stardom. The labels will love you. Clearanco no problemo. Just dont mention anything about AI being involved if poss. In case your new banger becomes a big hit on You Tube and Tik Tok, Spotify, and Soundcloud and goes viral in two days . So, careful with that one. š
Thinkin about it, maybe its safer to just finally do that bootleg remix of “Sweet Dreams” you`ve always wanted to do.

New Mix Alert !
Been on with this one for a short while, in comparison to some projects, and its now at a stage where Im semi comfortable letting you guys have a listen thru to see what you think. Only a Radio Mix type of version for now..there will be an extended at some point and I`m hoping to maybe add a few more instuments in there and maybe an extra verse too to top up.. but, the meat and 2 veg is there and pretty much staying as is.
Not gonna lie, Ive had a bit of a bee in my bonnet since we all heard what was done with the Pnau & Elton John & Dua Lipa track we featured on the site a bit back, which in essence is a Multitrack Mash-Up with new drums and new synthy parts all mashed up into the mix for good measure too. And you might have noticed it did rather well in the charts and was very well received creatively by the likes of Rolling Stone ect.
I recall saying in that/this post that “we have to up our game” in response to a track like that (lol) and I count myself included in that judgement.. so much so, I decided from that date on, to be on the look-out for a few packs that I could use to go somehwere near what those guys did.
The mix itself here I`ll admit, turned out quite a lot cheesier than I originally wanted, but in retrospect, it probably was going to end up like that due to the source material and the inspiration behind it. It did start out as a nice and filthy house bassliney thing, and the early versions certainly raised an eyebrow with one of my buddies so I knew I was on the right lines.. but, it progressively got cheesier. As you will hear. Especially when you start adding extra pianos and familiar vocals.. but anyway, it is what it is.
In the mix there`s basically parts of several Multitracks mixed together, and new drums and some new musical parts.. so its not strictly a mash-up any longer.. but a mash up of lots of “elements” all together. The initial goal was to make a track that actually was a mash-up.. but didnt sound like one.. which was kinda the major “take” that I got for the Elton & Dua tune, and tbh, without blowing the trumpet too much, is something I`ve been trying to do for ages anyway. And Cold Heart was probably the kick up the ass I needed there too lol.
So here it is.. “The Greatest Dancer”. yep, its that one. The Sister Slegde track we all know and love. Which, you may or may not know, had a version done about 10 years by TGD featuring one of my fave arteests, the one and only Snoop Dogg. Now, ten years ago, Snoop sampled the track for his version, and I`m guessing here.. he might not have had the Sister Sledge multitrack which only appeared in the wild a few years ago. As you all know, The Greatest Dancer multi is now out and very much in the wild, and that gives the opportunity to dig in to all the separated vocals and instruments now, which very probably would have come in handy 10 years ago.. if you get my drift.
I guess in my head I tried to create what could have been created 10 years ago if the tools had been there, but together with this decades “dance mix sylee”, but still trying to keep it “Old School” and sounding like it was made using an Atari 1080, An Akai S1000 sampler (with infinate memory) & a 909.. If you like. That was my own “mental brief” you could say. The rest of the brief was to make a track that one of my DJ buddies could play in his bar on a weekend, around Xmas time, that no-one would bat an eyelid at, especially after a couple of beers or 3. Well, it is that time of year after all.

Going to leave it there as I can feel waffle mode coming on, and that is always IMO a good time to quit writing !

There`s no reason why the new Dua Lipa acapella wont fit on top of Queens Another One Bites The Dust Instrumental at all, so may try it š Never really done a pair of mash ups before if you know what I mean.

Rule number 1 of Mash Up making: Always check any obvious pairing so you get “a great title” for your Mash Up from the off. It must be “witty” in some way. That`s the rule. Then we hope and pray the acapella and instrumental could maybe work together in some way at least, and that both the key & bpm is somewhat similar. In that order.
Maybe thats just me (lol) but I couldn`t help but notice Clean Bandit have a new track out called Tick Tock, and as the instrumental recently landed, there was only one pella that was going to get checked within minutes. Got to say I wasn`t holding out much hope because, a, I`m not that lucky, and b, it just wouldn`t be that easy on first try.. would it ? Never works like that.
Well, call me Mr Surprised-a-lot cos it kinda did work out. Even though the Clean Bandit track is 101 Bpm and Kesha`s vocal was 120 Bpm, they do sort of go. At 105 Bpm. It`s not perfect, but it`ll pass in a bar when everyones had a few drinks! which frankly, is usually the yardstick best worked to on the cheesy stuff.
Dunno how long it`ll last on Soundcloud, but here it is for a quick listen if you want.

One last thing.. I`m sure I had the stems for Kesha`s Tik Tok, as in 100% sure, but I cant for the life of me find them.I usually double/triple back up, but not in this case it seems. Now I know they were rare back in the day, and I think they may still be now, but luckily, I know there`s a few old skool Kesha fans in our midst, so here`s a request for the Tik Tok stems if anyone has a copy? Myself and the community would appreciate.ty.
One other last thing, [DISCLAIMER]: I was in no way butthurt/jealous or inspired into making this Mash Up by the last most excellent “official mash up” by Clean Bandit, which I really really liked, which, when I played it to someone they said ” sounds like you did it”. So I wasn`t butthurt at all. Not one bit. just sayin š

Got to admit, I`ve become quite a fan of the album, now I`ve had a proper listen. There`s some great influences in there from all over the place. I swear I spotted some Ultravox.. And the odd borrowed riff/entire song. And I kinda like that way of recording myself. Sometimes.OK most of the time. So call me a Dua Lipa fan now. Dammit. I`m supposed to be too old for all this new music !

I suppose in these days it`s still OK to have a little fun?? Hope so.
Couldn`t resist putting this pack together for any would be Mash Up makers that like “excessive titling” in the title of their creations.. count me in there..
Included in this pack is also all the component parts and the mixdown of the Mash Up you can see in the Soundcloud player above. It`s only a “sketchbook” mix as I call em, as in a sketch compared to a finished drawing. If that makes sense. Made I think in about 2017 with the DIY acapella.
I dont know if I`ll ever get the time (or the inclination) to finish this booty off now, though I hope so, but either way, I`m throwing it out into the wild for anyone to have a go at. If you want to of course. No pressure !
